Most cisgender people know
Next to nothing
About transgender people
Just enough to be captivated
By our bodies
But not enough to take
Proper care of us
We have to educate doctors
And advocate for ourselves endlessly
They still treat me as “woman”
Won’t see me for me
With their tunnel vision
Fixated on how fascinating
Our bodies are
How unnatural and hideous
Call my body parts “female”
But I call them genderless
Trans people are held
Under a microscope
Specimens to dissect
Our bodies described in gory detail
To elicit shock and outrage
Shrink us down to bite size
Digestible as a fetish
An object of desire or disgust
Bigots get off to trans porn
Fuck a chick with a dick
Or a guy with a vag secretly
Then vote against our rights
I’m no freak of nature
I simply didn’t have a say in
My genetics or genitalia
I can’t change on my own
And my gender?
I’ve always been this way
If cis people insist on
Spreading me
Open on the operating table
The least they can do is
Perform surgery
Since they want me so badly to conform
But no, they’ll hold that
Out of reach too
Twist it from my grasp
Just poke and prod
Run their little experiments
Strip us all bare of rights
Then tell me to cover up
My body is no temple
I can call home
But I refuse to hide
My trans body in shame
Even if I get attacked
And robbed of my humanity
I refuse to live in fear
I won’t accept the majority’s
Opinion of me
I choose to live authentically
My trans body is stunning
Beautiful before transition
And even more beautiful now
So don’t come in my DMs
Calling me a twisted, ugly sinner
I earned these scars
Grew this thick hair
Prayed for these stretch marks
Let’s see how you like
The cold silver on your skin
And blinding light beating down
Let’s open you up
And see what went wrong
What a fine specimen you’ll make
