Written in June 2015, this is still one of my very favorite poems.

The world we live in stands proud and tall Flaunting its beauty with its head held high Displaying the many treasures
That it has stored under the sky Though there are, indeed, many to behold Eyes are definitely the most beautiful of all From the majesty of Mount Everest
To the sands of the sea From the beating hearts in our chests
To the mere breath in our lungs To the many different nations, tribes, and tongues There is much to be said for everything else
But eyes are definitely the most captivating to me
Trying to read someone's emotions?
Their eyes are stock full You might be so quick as to catch a mischievous glint Or a dull gloss that tells you they're clearly spent Sometimes a bright gleam will reveal
That they're reminiscing a good joke
When you look through those gateways into one's soul
Some eyes are crowded by darkness and mirth
Collected over time by living life in the dirt
Some eyes are wide in doe-eyed innocence
Only accustomed to taking in the light
All eyes have meaning all over the Earth
Some eyes are new to the world and have much to take in They sparkle with childhood and resonate of youth Other well-worn eyes are slowly fading with age
But gaining in truth
Fogged over with the past
Every eye holds a story within
But most amazing of all has got to be The fact that every individual eye is unique Your story held captive in your eyes does speak They shine a light that says
"Hi, this is me. And a soul dwells here."
