Inspired by the movie of the same name, music I've been listening to, and family trauma

Movie poster

Movie screen

Can’t help but see you

In every scene

Family reunites

The credits roll

And I wish that was me

The end of us

Felt like the end of me

I see you in everything

Tell me why I’m stuck in a time loop

While the pendulum swings on by

I see you everywhere

Feathered wings spread wide

With millions of eyes for millennia

I see you all at once

Always present

All powerful

All knowing

You’re in every arm extended

In compassion

In my passionate flame

That burns for justice

The righteous anger

In every preacher’s voice

The violence that flashes

In people’s eyes

You’re the clamoring critics

In my head

The deafening silence

That surrounds me

You haunt our happy memories

Flashing through reels on rewind

You’re the sorrow that

Pours from the sky

The bliss that beams down

In the bird beaks full of seeds

For their open mouthed young

The loose feathers blown to

Every corner of the universe

You’re in every smile, every frown

My laughter when I watch

13 Going On 30

My tears when Gandalf dies

You’re in every goodbye that lingers

On regretful lips

With no echo of hellos

You’re in every version of myself

Across all time and space

Without you

There is no me

Maybe in a parallel universe out there

You accept me for me

We embrace each other fully

But this is not that timeline

Not our shared reality

Where our paths diverged long ago

So I’m determined to search

The multiverse

Until I find another version of

My mother and father

Who don’t make me choose

Between them and me

But just because it could

Have been different

Doesn’t mean it would

Be better

I’m in between being and becoming

Stuck in a time loop

Losing you

Was the beginning of me

The cruelest twist of fate

In another life

A different world

An alternate dimension—

I would’ve really liked just doing

Laundry and taxes with you

I swear somewhere this works

I hope there's a universe

Where I wear a thorn crown

Fashioned from my heartache

But nails are forgotten

And we’re not crucified

I just love you in

Everything

Everywhere

All at once

Always
