All ego and drive

He’d only just been flirting with fortune

And testing his aim

And now here was his honest intent

Bullseye

I erupted into butterflies

But they warned

Run Away

“You’re too close,"

I said twice

He retreated slightly but

Then continued his advances

“Are you a runner? Don’t want you to do no running.”

My autistic ass said,

“I don’t run. I have a bad back.”

But when he eventually turned his back

You bet I made a mad dash

Across the crowded floor

And out the door

Gaze firmly fixated back on the distance

I hoped to put between us

A shot in the dark

And he missed
