Written on August 11, 2015, this poem deals with the conflicting emotions I experienced after a painful end to a friendship.

I lost a great friend today

One I will not name

But I can assure you

She’s caused me great pain

You’ll see we kept close company

If you venture to the past

We were the best of friends

But like she said

We quickly burned and crashed

I lost a great friend today

And with her she took my trust

She stole my affection and robbed my pride

It seems the end of us was long underway

I poured my soul out to her

Every secret, fear, and fantasy

We exchanged hopes and dreams

Never once envisioning a future

Without the other

I lost a great friend today

She was like a walking dream

Until I awoke from my pleasant slumber

To discover it had faded away

I’m sorry to end our friendship

On such a tragic note

But she did this to us, to me

How could she forget what we were?

I lost a great friend today

She left me far behind

Now I mourn the loss of who she was

And hate the person she’s become
