One Bad Apple Spoils the Bunch by Sequoia on Red Bubble
My bloodstream already runs
With a steady current of ill will
How can a spoiled apple
Ruin the bunch
When I fell and rolled from a tree
Already rotted to its core?
So can you blame me for seeking out
The Tree with the Knowledge
Of Good and Evil
To taste the sweet juices of truth myself?
For licking the streams
Dripping down my chin
Even if that means I chose
Banishment by sin?
No more obscuring my shame
With sticks and leaves
Like Adam and Eve
Parents pass down self-hatred
Like any other disease
Dis-ease in one’s own skin
Better to wander
The barren wilderness
Removing the blinders on reality
Than to be trapped in a false paradise
A deceptive fantasy
I'm still untangling myself
From these deep roots
Before I'm consumed by
This hereditary cancer
If they get cavities from sipping
On their bittersweet lies
Let them nurse
Their cursed toothaches
If they can't swallow it
Let them choke on the bitter truth
I can't let secrets
Poison my soul anymore
Fill my lungs with spores
Run through my veins
Until I'm rotted to the core
I bite into that forbidden flesh
And taste victory
I didn't fall from grace
I leapt to liberation
This is my genesis
And I'm blazing a barefoot
Path to freedom
